Shepherding Groups Announcement
Here’s the “Moment for Shepherding Groups” presented in worship on February 5 by Dr. Dean Chow, a member of our Board of Deacons:
I’d like to start with a trivia quiz. If you know the answer to this question, please raise your hand. Who said this phrase from a famous movie: “Whut we have heah, is failure to communicate.” The movie is..."Cool Hand Luke.” Luke shortly and fatally found out the importance of communication.
First Presbyterian Church is a growing church. Growing churches encounter problems that sometimes fall through the proverbial cracks. We’ve all seen a member’s need that was unmet, a prayer unsaid, or a task that was left undone. You can see the importance of communication.
At a joint meeting of the Session and Diaconate, this problem was addressed and a solution was voted on and approved. The visitation committee was given the task of creating Shepherding Groups, 15 of them. Each member of this church will be a member of one of the 15 groups. Each group will be led by an active elder and deacon. February 26 has been declared “Shepherding Social Sunday.” The nuts and bolts of the program will be explained and your questions answered during the Sunday School hour. Each of the 15 groups will meet separately at a specified place. It is vital that every member be present. You will hear more about Shepherding Groups in the weeks to come.
I urge everyone to pray and reflect on the following THREE words...PARTICIPATE, COMMUNICATE, INVIGORATE...Participate in Shepherding groups. Communicate with your fellow group members and group leaders. Invigorate your Christian life and, in turn, invigorate the life of First Presbyterian Church.
In closing, I’d like to read from 1st Peter, chapter 5, verse 2: “Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness.”
Thank you, and God bless you.
